Organizations that help prevent individuals and families from becoming homeless or that help those who have become homeless are always in need of your time and assistance. Volunteering your time to help is just as important as contributing financially and sharing food or a few dollars (or a smile!) with someone asking for help on the street. If you would like to donate your time and talent, use our Directory to find an agency near you. Some things to keep in mind when you volunteer:
- Volunteers are needed year-round. Because many of us think of giving back during the fall and winter holidays, many volunteer programs are quite busy during this time. Think about committing to volunteer once a month all year or ask your favorite local organization when they might really need the help.
- There are many volunteer needs outside of serving food or helping to clean or rehab buildings. Be creative! What skills can you offer? Can you volunteer your time to help design a website or provide accounting support?
- You are volunteering to help people in need. These people could be your friend or family member. Treat them with dignity and respect and understand that they may be going through a very difficult time in their lives.
- Your time is valuable, and you’re making a huge impact by sharing it with others. Thank you!!!
