Project Overview
The AmeriCorps Supervisor will oversee AmeriCorps NCCC members participating in the Lived Experience Training Academy (LETA) and Bring America Home Now (BAHN) Campaign. The project aims to equip people with lived experience of homelessness with leadership skills to impact policy, program creation, and implementation, and to reduce unsheltered homelessness and increase housing supply options.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervision & Support
- Directly supervise AmeriCorps NCCC members at assigned field sites (Los Angeles, Sacramento, Atlanta, King County, and future sites in Cincinnati and Minneapolis).
- Provide daily oversight, guidance, and support to ensure members’ safety, productivity, and professional development.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for AmeriCorps members regarding project tasks, schedules, and site logistics.
- Training & Development
- Facilitate onboarding and orientation for new AmeriCorps members, including organizational overview, safety protocols, and project objectives.
- Ensure all members participate in the LETA program, which includes 12–16 hours of professional development on topics such as technology literacy, wellness, public policy, communication, coalition building, and advocacy.
- Support members in developing skills in HUD program design, organizing, capacity building, public speaking, legislative analysis, and use of office technology.
- Project Management
- Coordinate with the Assistant Director of the BAHN campaign and Program Manager of LETA to align field activities with project goals.
- Maintain accurate records of member attendance, progress, and outcomes.
- Ensure project work plans are followed and that members have at least 40 hours of meaningful work per week.
- Report regularly on project progress, challenges, and successes to organizational leadership.
- Community Engagement
- Support AmeriCorps members in mobilizing people with lived experience to form advocacy groups and participate in community planning.
- Foster relationships with local service providers, community organizations, and stakeholders.
- Promote inclusion of people with lived experience in decision-making and program design.
- Safety & Compliance
- Conduct regular safety training and ensure all service sites are safe and accessible.
- Implement emergency response plans and maintain clear communication channels for reporting safety concerns.
- Ensure compliance with AmeriCorps NCCC policies, including non-discrimination and service project limitations.
Qualifications
- Experience supervising staff, volunteers, or AmeriCorps members in a nonprofit or community-based setting.
- Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
- Commitment to the mission of ending homelessness and empowering people with lived experience.
- Ability to facilitate training and support professional development.
- Familiarity with safety protocols and project management best practices.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Zoom, and other remote meeting platforms.
Reporting Structure
- Reports to: Assistant Director, Bring America Home Now Campaign
- Collaborate with: LETA Program Manager, field site staff, and organizational leadership
Work Locations
- Field sites in Los Angeles, Sacramento, Atlanta, King County, Cincinnati, and Minneapolis, with administrative support from the Washington, DC office.
Example Implementation
- Conduct weekly check-ins with AmeriCorps members to review progress and address challenges.
- Organize monthly training sessions on advocacy, leadership, and community engagement.
- Maintain a project calendar outlining daily tasks, responsible staff, and member assignments.
- Ensure all members complete LETA certification and document skill development.
Mission Statement: The National Coalition for the Homeless, founded in 1982, is a national network of people who are currently experiencing homelessness or who were once homeless, activists and advocates, community and faith-based homeless service providers, and others committed to a single mission. homelessness. At the same time, we work to meet the immediate needs of people who are either currently homeless or at risk of homelessness. We take as our first principle of practice that people who are currently experiencing homelessness or have formerly experienced homelessness must be actively involved in all of our work.
Organizational Goals: The National Coalition for the Homeless remains a substantive voice in the federal legislative process for people who are experiencing homelessness. In our policy advocacy, we work diligently to ensure that mainstream resources and opportunities are available to families and individuals who are either homeless or at risk of homelessness. To end homelessness in the U.S., we use the following strategies to accomplish our mission: lobbying, policy analysis, litigation, public education, community organizing, research and technical assistance.
